question for the experts

i bought a whitetail cape and it has been salted and everythings been turned but i noticed it has a few 1/4 inch thick pieces of fat on it still. they are not just huge chunks but they are big enough to make me wonder if i dont take it off if it will cause the hair in these places to slip. im going to send this cape to the tannery and im wondering if i should rehydrate this cape and flesh it alittle better
or send it as is. also if i rehydrate it what would be the appropriate way? thanks

It's salted?

Hi Tim,

No problem as they say in Jamaica. If it was well salted all over, sleep tight. I have done this for 30 years, a well salted skin can survive all winter in a cool shed, simply put it in a pickle bath for a week and flesh.

Why do work that is not nescesary? If you have only one cape, sure send it out but for five or more you can justify a fleshing machine in a few years. Check my web site :www.atreide.net/fleshing
