Bob,
ilost your e-mail butI thought I'd share your problem with other
beginners. after fleshing and washing hide dry it so that it is
no longer dripping wet a tumbler helps alot but if you are without
one and your significant other is o.k. with the idea a regular
clothes dryer can be used, use the air dry cycle(no heat!)
in about 15-20 min your cape will be alot easier to mount
and you wont get the hair slipping around the ears &eyes expecially
if you flesh& wash one day & mount the next!

I would not put my deer capes in a dryer unless you can fill it 1/4 full of saw dust. That hide hitting the paddles on the inside of the dryer without a buffer is not a good thing. My wife would not let me do the saw dust thing (something about fire) so I wait until she is gone and put the hides in the washer on final spin. Use two capes for this or you need to put something in for balance if you are only doing one cape. If you don't you will be dancing with the washer. The spin cycle will pull the excess water from the hair. I have a old washer in the garage but it's only used when the wife is home. I did a moose at a laundry once. I told them I was in to the mountain man thing and this was my sleeping bag. They don't even look twice when I come in now.

Tape the top well after adding sawdust, bag it again. Tumble when the wife ain't home.
