cut pheasant waddles

Submitted by karen on 3/22/02. ( ) 63.175.224.248

I am doing two pheasants at the same time. The first one I split the waddles with no trouble. The second one I had major trouble with. I have these little cuts where I thought I was following the dark red line but obviously not. When I mount them on an artificial head I usually put some caulking in there but this will run out of the cracks. Any suggestions on how to fix the cuts would help out a lot. The first bird is my husbands but the second (where I am having the problems) is actually for a customer.

Thanks in advance,
karen

try a little bondo instead of using calking

mix up some bondo you could add some filler to it if you want
make it pretty hot put it on a piece of paper and roll into a tube
fold end over like toothpaste so its easy to get where you want
fill wattle & shape yes it will leak some & you'll have to wipe
it but it will set up quickly and you just apply apoxie sculpt if
needed and touch up with some paint

there is also replacement heads with artificial wattles avail out there
e-mail me if you need more info

Caulking comes off easily, but..

If the artificial head is the type with the waTTles (no "d" in wattles) already sculpted in, then you won't need much caulk at all. Your normal method should still be fine. It comes off with a damp brush, and a dot of super glue on the tip of a pin will repair the wattles to where you will never know there was a problem.

Sewing

If nothing else sew the little cuts with rad thread. I do not use the artificial heads with the wattles I instead use clay. it gives you a little more working time than bondo does. the clay is folled into little balls and easily inserted through the eye opening.
Hope this helps.

fill voids

if after drying you need to fill in your voids try mixing a little foam dust with your apoxie. i take a fine toothed hack saw and cut some scrapes from a manikin until i have a little pile of foam dust and mix it with my apoxie. this nocks down the shine and gives the same texture of the wattle.
