freezer temp alarm?

Submitted by Becky on 3/29/02. ( ) 152.163.188.34

My freezer went out yesterday (probably the day before), but found it yesterday. Thankfully, the skunk that had been raiding my chickens came by and decided to be still long enough to get shot, and then not spray. Since he didn't stink, I decided to get brave and skin him. I had been wanting to mount a skunk but hadn't been brave enough to tackle it. After I got him skinned and ready for the freezer, that's when I noticed it was out. Just in time. If it hadn't been for that d... chicken raider, I would not have been in the freezer yesterday. Anyhow, my question is...who carries the alarms that you put on the freezer that lets you know when the temp rises? I've seen them in a catalog somewhere but can not find it now. Of course we bought a new freezer yesterday, but I don't want to take that chance again. Thanks.

McKenzie use to sell them. I don't know if they still do. Give them a call. 1-800-279-7985. If not try someone that sells freezers.

Skin them skunks!

Well, you can buy freezers that already have them as a feature! I just bought two of them recently. Made by GE. My other two freezers do not have this feature but I've made it a practice to at least check them every two or three days no matter what! I had a terrible loss about two years ago! Once bitten twice shy... * I've got one freezer that has been kicking for 18 years day in and day out! She ain't pretty, but I'm crossing my fingers it'll last a few more!

Actually I think places like Home Depot and Lowes carry something like this? Worth checking out. But yeah, I've seen it in a catalog too. Which one...hmmm?

Yeah, I found out after we bought this freezer that some of them come with the alarm built in. But I didn't have time to do too much shopping around and this one was the only one in stock, in town, that was big enough. It has been pretty warm here in Tx.
Thanks again for all the help.

P.S. The one that went out, was about 20 years old.
