I only have a cape and don't know what size the eye was. Also when I measure the eye to nose it doesn't seem to come out right. Thanks.

larry, most deer form catalogs (assuming the "cape" you are talking about is a deer cape), will give you the recommended eye size in mm's. the key is to get an accurate nose to eye, and neck measurement so that you can select a form and go from there. if the cape is lying on the table when you measure eye to nose, it will measure somewhat longer than it was on the deer, just as a balloon will be long until you blow it up (did i just say that?). try stuffing a rag or paper towel into the muzzle and forehead, and try to get the hide to assume a somewhat natural position, then take your measurement. remember, the form's nose ends inside the hide; stop your measurement just shy of the nose hide tip.
I,m new at this to.But maybe this may help. I,ve got a friend that is helping me.he told me kinda as a rule of thumb that with a neck size 22 in and up to use 32mm and for 19 in to 22 to use 30mm after that use 28mm . hope this my help.
When I take the eye to nose measurements I always choose a form that is 1/4" shorter than my measurement. This way I do not have to stretch the face and therefore no drumming in the face. Makes the face look softer and more natural. I use the same technique on my competition mounts as well. Most the time I use 28/32mm eyes, unless I have a real young deer or extremely big buck.
Thanks, friends, Im sure this will help.
