Get rid of that indent area. Grind it out, carve it out just get rid of it. Deepen the hole a good inch and a half or even two inches. Don't enlarge the diameter by more than a 1/2inch or so total. You will need this "hole" for your ear butt attachment. If you use clay or mache the butts will adhere to the form better this way. If you are going to place the ears in a "back" position you will need to take even more out of the back area. Removing part of the actual sculpted ear butt area. Use some good reference and play around with it! Look at a deer skull and you can see where the ear canal is located. With the bondo ears you will tend to make the butts longer because of the thickness of the bondo at the base of the canal. With the indent removed you can set you ear deeper (in the proper position). If you don't quite get what I'm saying ask me again and I'll try to answer you better. Good luck!
Nick, Just use the ear 'indentions" as a guide to position the ear butts.I cut a squareish hole in the center of the ear area on each side of the form and fill in with clay which bonds with the clay that I make the ear butts from. This all sets up real solid and makes a very sturdy ear.Enjoy, Aaron Honeycutt
Go with Aaron's adivise. Why create more work by grinding everything away when all you have to do is build it up with clay. Plus it is a good reference, letting you know where exactly the earbutts go.
