I recently mounted a 200 pound doe, my very first deer mount. It turned out wonderfully, and looks great, although when doing the fleshing after tanning, I discovered that some hair on the face had been lost. I thought about it, and remembered we had used a very old fleshing beam, with jagged ends.. The face must have caught & the hair got ripped out when it was still wet.
My question is:
We have plenty of other deer we can take fur from. The piece has dried, and the areas without hair have shrunk up, but are still slighly noticeable. They are hard now. What kind of glue should I use to glue this hair on? Or what else can I do? and will this fix it?

Liz, if the spot is small enough, you can blend it with paint. Mix it until you get the right color and airbrush it in. If it is slightly off colored, it can be easily blended with the surrounding hair to fit in. You can cut hair off another doe, but the results usually don't come out all that great.
Have you considered rehydrating, cutting it out (football cut), and either sewing or using a good epoxie adhesive to close the hole? It may work, but I still think your best bet will be blending with paints. You can use a brush as well if you don't have an airbrush.
Good luck!
