First squirrel question

Submitted by Brad on 4/9/02. ( ) 152.163.188.34

I'm preparing to do my first squirrel and I just received my video from WASCO. In there they tell you to skin, flesh, wash, and then mount. I've seen numerous people on here recommend other options. Can I follow the WASCO steps or are they leaving things out? I'm planning on ordering a Squirrel mounting kit from them that includes all of the supplies needed. Any input would be appreciated since it's my first mount. Thanks

Brad, over on the left side of your screen is a search icon. Click that and then type in a "key" word like squirrel, or squirrel mounting, or squirrel skinning, ect. This sight will bring up many questions that have been answered over the past few years. When I first started coming to this sight thats what I was told. My question was much like yours! There is tons of info in there! Have fun! Tony J.

First Squirrel Mount

......I would recommend to wrap a body from excellsor, then later slide the form down a heavy sharpened wire that has first been pounded into the base. That way you don't need to wire any legs front or back because your form is already secure[hide the bottom feet under all the fur and hide]The front legs has well has back legs get filled with mache. All you need is borax or similar to preserve squirrel skin. You don't have to wash the skin prior to mounting you can clean with Q-Tip afterwards.....Lloyd

I just started last fall after I ordered the WASCO squirrel mounting video. If you got the same tape as I did, the steps are pretty basic, but they work. They keep it a little more simple for beginners to get started. I followed the directions from the tape and the only trouble I had was tucking the lips, I had to go back and make the lip slot a little wider. I think the WASCO steps are a good place to start. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the information. It'll come in handy. Jason, so how did your first squirrel turn out? I don't expect a whole lot but I'm very excited to get started. I've got two in the freezer so as soon as I finish the first one I'll do the second one and hopefully improve. Thanks again.
