Bird eyes

Submitted by Ralph on 4/10/02. ( ) 24.237.147.119

How do people get their bird eyes to look so smooth and real, I think my eyes look good until I look a another taxidermists eyes and his birds look like they are going to fly away. I use all the good tohicken eyes and have good referances too, I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Check your setting depth, position and symmetry, using reference of course. Same goes for eyelid placement. If these things are correct you must be doing good. Here in sweden we can legally mount many more spieces than you in the US, nearly all birds can be mounted, even most owls and some raptors. On smaller birds, songbirds etc I place a drop of gloss directly on the eye. It really adds a "sparkle" look. If You do most ducks and the like, why not buy a artificial head with installed eyes and eyelids for reference. If this I mentioned is not your problem, please be more specific, I´m sure someone on this fantastic forum can help you. B S
