This is the first squirrel i have tanned i was wondering after i skin my squirrel how long do i keep it salted before putting in the pickle do i keep it salted till it drys out completly as i would a deer cape. I am using the lutan F processes

leave the skin salted for a couple of days, then soak it back in warm (20C) water with a samll amount of detergent until it is really wet and flacid (this could take up to 1 hour). Then scrape the very thin layer of flesh off the skin before pickling and tanning it. If you do not remove this layer you will not get a soft skin.
