Your wet tanned or rehydrated dry tanned cape will mold if it is not kept frozen. It can be refrigerated for a day or two, but if you are going to be keeping it longer than that before working with it you need to freeze it. It is organic material and anything organic will grow mold if you keep it damp. Take a scrap of a wet tanned hide and throw it in a plastic bag and cultivate some mold for yourself, it will deteriorate the hide.
