Doing my first coyote shoulder mount and the ears are in bad shape, the cartilige has been removed including the most of the inner skin. Can this be salvaged? There is about a 1/2" of inside ear skin left around the edge in each ear. Can the the mssing part be made up with magic sulpt? Willl the skin mount this way and not curl when drying? Any help appreciated...
Thanks,
Darrell

Do you still have the cartelidge/skin? If so, I think I would sew it back to the ear with a very small needle andsmall stitches. Try to remove the cartelidge from the torn peice as well. You could try a piece of dryer sheet and superglue also - but I don't know how that big a repair job would work with super glue. Another option is to get new ears from a different coyote and use them as replacements. This can also be difficult because the color variations in the fur and finding someone that has a good pair of coyote ear could be a bugger as well. You would want to try to find a coyote that was close to the same color as your coyote. Yet another option that may work is to just leave the ear the way it is, put it on an earliner (using hidepaste)as you normally would a deer. You might have to superglue the edges down if they won't stay put, or use paper clips and thin cardboard to hold them in postion until dry. WHen it dries you can sculpt around the skin edge and over the liner to make "new skin".
It won't curl if you use earliners or bondo method. Make sure the liners are cut to fit correctly, or you will get curling around the edges.
