I want to stretch a turkey's breast feathers over a plaque before mounting the tail on it. Will scraping the skin and rubbing in Borax be enough of a preservative?

borax will do the trick.
...I would say borax would be enough If you rub it in good this may involve perferating the tail butt a bit so the borax can get in.....Lloyd
