begining

My friend and I have already mounted a squirrel and i went pretty well. We just ordered a kit that came with a instant perservative, the manikin, eye set and the eyes. We just used a folding knife and it worked but it was hard to skin the head and flesh it. Does any one have any help on what I should use next time or is tanning better.

exacto

Go to your local Walmart Etc and get an exacto (spelling) and use this to skin and scrape off the flesh. It's bit sharper and will work better in most situations.

Dp is fine for the tree rat but I like to tan all my hides and there are a couple of tans that work good. Liqua-tan, EZ-100 are my two tans I use.

Bobby, I agree with Frank that you need to invest in either an Exacto knife for the head area. I too just skinned and fleshed my first squirrel. It wasn't easy but I had an exacto knife so even the most difficult spots weren't that bad. The toughest part for me was splitting the lips. It was tough to tell where to cut and where not to. I ordered a beginners kit from WASCO and it should be here soon. I hope the mounting process goes well. Good luck!
