fin back cream

Is fin back cream really amust to use to prep a deer form,it just looks like caulk to me.You rough up the form anyway,shoudnt the hide paste clue it to the form?Can this step be avoided?

its a must that you rough up the form, if you dont the glue just lays on top instead of penitratting the form, it creates a vaccum efect that holds down your hide but you will still have to use some pins.

Peel off the label from the tube. I get the same stuff from my local hardware store for about 50% less that you can buy from the taxidermy supplier.

mike i am know expert by any means. however i know what works for me. i simply rough the form up real good and use buckeye supreme hide paste dont over stretch my hide but make sure it fits like a glove and keep a close eye on the problem areas for drumming (the brisket for example)i dont use any form prep save your money.

Never seal the form!

Why would you ruff it up and have millions onf pores for the hide paste to adhere to. The seal it?

Which has a better paste holding ability? A smooth surface or a ruff surface?.

Heres a hint I never seal a form.

I am currently testing some water based hide glues, they need a porus surface to permeate.
