Salted Hides

Submitted by Andy Park on 4/25/02. ( andypark@earthlink.net ) 65.56.127.157

I hear a lot of different terminolgy as it relates to hides. Things like crusted, green salted, bleached, etc.... I would like to start buying some hides and sending them to the tannery myself to be tanned. It seems like this would be a more economical way of obtaining a fully tanned hide. What condition (Crusted, green, salted) would I be looking for so that it can be sent straight to a tannery without any additional preparation by me? I am primarily looking at buying some buffalo hides and sending them to the tannery. Also any tanneries that would do a couple of hides now and then in the Dalllas/Fort Worth area?
