Airbrush Question

Submitted by Tony Maldonado on 4/28/02. ( ihntdeer@aol.com ) 152.163.188.34

I have searched the archives and become even more confused than before. I am looking to buy an airbush that does extremely fine lines and detail. I currently am using a single action Paasche. I just can't seem to get the detail that Im looking for out of it. I realize that it could just be my technique. However, I would like to try another type. Any Reccomendations? Thanks

Aztek

I had a paasche but got rid of it and got an Aztek. I like the Aztek better because it cleans up faster and easier. I can switch colors quicker with it as well. A double action air brush may be easier for you to get the control you are looking for. Good Luck. Dan Hudzik

Aztek also

I am a beginner to taxidermy and using an airbrush. I bought a used Aztek on e-bay and I am very happy with it. Very easy clean up and easy to control detail. The airbrush body has a lifetime warranty and the tips are 9.95 in the taxidermy catalogs. Very easy to use. I would vote with my limited experience for the Aztek.

Type in that it will clear up a lot for ya. Your choice you will have to pay for something like that but a good airbrush will not sustitute for experience.

Aztek's ok...

...it does a good job at most applications. I really like mine. However, in my experience, it can't produce truly fine lines. If that's what you're after, look into a Paasche AB - I don't own one but understand they, and some Iwata models, excel in this area. The Aztek's a very good, all-around versatile airbrush. Good luck!

IWATA is the best

I used to own an aztec it was ok but then i bought an iwata and fell in love with it since then I have purchased another iwata just for fine detail and it is awesome! It its the HP-BC for fine detail hp-bc-2 for general purpose. GET ONE you will not regret it.

I've owned every brush mentioned above.....

and a couple of others as well. (except the passche AB) Save yourself some heartache and headache, get the Iwata HP-BC. It cost about $175.00 or so but is worth every penny! It will do what you are describing that you want to do.

Also, get some retarder and use it, if you aren't already. You need to experiment with thining your paints down to be able to get the fine detail and lines that you are looking for.

Iwata HP-B

If you are looking for a detail brush get the HP-B, not the BC. The BC has an external cup and you are doing details that will not require that much paint. And the cup just will get in the way. The B has a cup on top of the brush that is part of the airbrush body, while it doesn't hold that much paint, it is more than enough for what you are doing. Iwata also makes, or at least used to make, an HP-A brush that has an even smaller paint reserve. With the brush you will need a crown cap, that will allow you to get very close to your work without the air backwashing into the brush.
