HI, my fiancee runs a stable yard and does a lot of teaching, she would like to have a mounted horse leg(s) to demonstrate the bone structure. I can get the legs but need to know the easiest way to deflesh and mount, there's no way I can use beetles so the method would have to be chemical. I've been told that a bio-logical detergent could be used. If so how do I go about this, I can get sodium hydroxide is this the easiest way and again how do I go about it. Also should I drill a small hole in the bones during this process to allow the marrow to escape. Do I need to keep the solution warm. I was going to mount the bones on a block of wood using a metal rod bent into the right shape and running down the length of the bones. I would be gratefull for any advice. cheers.
