You have to use retarder to slow the drying speed of the paint, you may even need to cut back the air for your style. I use retarder and about 50 psi in my VL #1

Splatters seldom are cause by the compressor. They are cause by condensation in the lines or extreme air pressures. But a moisture trap on your line and turn your pressure down through a regulator. I use 35psi in my Paasche "H" model.

Check the cone inside the tip of your airbrush ad make sure it is clean. I use an old airbrush needl for ths, it works well. That, thick paint, or dried up pint in the little cavity where you stick the tip of the paint cap into could also be clogged. Check all these things and make sure you hav not too much but enough psi to push your paint thoroughly and check that thepain mixture isnt too thick.
