Submitted by sherri on 6/3/02. ( qthorse@lyn.net ) 208.49.78.30

I have bought a paasche single action, and haven't used it yet. Mainly because I don't know how to mix the paint. I've never air brushed before. How would I mix a water base paint such as the acrylic? There were no instuction on how to do this. And then with the oil base, {or lacquer based, what would I mix with it if at all?} Thankyou for the help.

Thanks alot for your help. I really appreciate the help of others and for a really great site. I will also do more digging in the archives. Thanks again! I just hope that I will be able to help others. I really enjoy taxideremy and the fact that an animal can be recreated. I have always had a strong intrest in art, and have always been amazed with taxidermy.

Paints oh yes, ..... Save your money

you can spay about anything. but use your head save the enviroment and your health. use a respirator and ventilation

Acyrilic thinned with water
tempura paint thinned with water
Inks & dyes
oils can be bound in clear lacquer and thinened with lacquer thinner,
Be cautious of the fire hazards and where a respirator !

Enamel thins with a enamel reducer and so on ....

What you need to learn is the right concistancy to get the right coverage

lacquers go on better in transparent coatings as does acyrilics the other thing to watch for is some oils have things in the pigments such as cadmium a carsinagenic you don't want to spray that everywhere.

other things to watch for is how fast it dries or need to dry don't want to wait a week before the next coat

Do a search for Ralph Morrils Mueseum fish taxadermy
The second half of this book is about airbrushing and includes color theroy read it and do the exercises you won't regret it on bit for what your gonna learn then you draw a subject and paint.

Get ralph's book and have fun.
