skinning a bear

Hi, all, what is the best way or your personal prefer to skin a bear? I mean skin for life size mount, and are there difference task, if I want skin for rug mount? Other question is, can I use regular home SOLVEN to disgreas the skin? Any input would be very appreciated. JIM

the best way to skin for life size is dorsal cut(down back). as for the rug down stomach,down all legs to pads.i am not sure if u can use that type of degreaser.i use super solvent degreaer by Van Dykes

if it is for a lifesize mount I would definitely use the dorsal cut. Don't like to sew for 5 hours.LOL. On some poses like a sitting bear with its legs dangling you can also use a case cut. That one is sgood for competition pieces since the animal sits on the seam and can't be seen or felt by the judge.
