Hi,
I was wondering if parakeets are legal to mount in NJ? I checked the archive but I couldn't find a straight answer..one said illegal and the other said legal.

Yes, parakeets (budgies) are legal.

Besides the non-native specie (legal) info., here's more :

Budgies are basically domesticated. If it's any color other than the normal green, there's basically no chance it came from Australia anyway. Most pet store budgies are not banded, but it's VERY easy to slip a closed legband on a dead budgie (and off one, for that matter). Use a little Vaseline and break the rear toe joints. A dead bird doesn't care. [or skin the legs out all the way to the toe joints] Custom coded, closed [seamless] legbands for various pssiticines [and info. on sizing] can be obtained from L & M Bird Leg Bands or Red Bird supply. Aviculturists use these places very frequently (including me).
