I'd wait

putting the hidepaste on the mannikin until you are ready to put the cape on. It will dry out if you apply it too soon.

get everything ready

Not sure about the tanning steps, but I'd wait on the hide paste till your ready to mount. I get the form rasped, the horns set, the eyes set, and all the stuff that is needed, cape thread cut and put on the needle, lay it all out on a table, get organized and then when it comes to mounting it goes like a production line. fast and to the point. hope this helps or do something esle meanwhile til cape is ready.

Thank you, since I'm just beginner, I don't have an airbrush or other accessories, just have pen brushes, any advise on how to do the finishing touch? such as WAX and PAINT. Thanks again. Bob

You don't need an airbrush to finish your mount. Ben Mears has used oil paints with great success and so have many others. Acrylic paints will work as well, but they take a lot more talent in blending them together like oils. As for the wax, many still use it, but I prefer the colored epoxy clays.
