Sawdust in Tumbler

Submitted by Rob on 6/15/02. ( ) 12.218.226.111

I was wandering if someone out there could answer a question that I have. I just converted a dryer into a tumbler and was wandering how much sawdust should I put into the dryer. Thanks for helping me out.

You can't get there from here.

In a real tumbler, you fill it half full so that the birds don't get bounced off the sides too hard so as to damage the feathers. Your jury rigged outfit will only let you fill up to the door and over half of that is going to fall through the seals on the drum anyway.

Cut a piece of cardboard and use duct tape to attach to door opening. This will alow you to add considerably more sawdust.

Heavy Duty Plastic Bag

Rob, I use my Wife's dryer "when she isn't home" to tumble dry skins. Use 2 heavy plastic garbage bags for insurance. I place the skin in the bags after soaking up much of the water with an old towel, add an equal weight of sawdust or so. Tie off the bag openings with some twine and a slip knot. Then spin away! This way you don't have to worry about sawdust spilling all over the floor when you open the door...works for me.
