Question about frozen fish

Submitted by Archie on 6/18/02. ( ) 205.188.209.168

I want to learn fish taxidermy , so this trout season i kept about 8 nice Rainbow trout. They are all between 18 to 20 inches and 2 to 4 lbs. I carefully wrapped them in plastic and quickly froze them uncleaned. My question is if it only takes me 2 or 3 fish to get this down pat, can I safely defrost and eat the fish that are left?

You can start skinning your fish, before it is all the way thawed out. I put down freezer paper, which keeps my skinning table clean, then make sure you boil your skinning knife, and after you get the body out, and get your measurements, go ahead and cut the filets off. As long as you keep everything clean, this should not be much different than cleaning the fish.rw

Don't set yourself up for people to start bashing you, don't say things like "I want to learn" and "down pat after 2 or 3 fish" It take lots, if not hundreds of fish to "get it down pat" and unless you have a lot of natural art ability it becomes even more difficult. I will be suprised if yur statements don't get hammered by other taxidermists

Yep, 2 or 3 should do it.

You'll probably be ready for museum work after 4 or 5. LOL In the meantime, I think Randal's advice will probably come in handy.

Arcjie, you gonna get it down pat!

I know another Archie that still has not got it down pat. He has made more money than most of us together, but his works sucks, sucks really bad.

Hope you kick butt in the masters at the next WORLD SHOW. or if you hurry you can clean up at the NTA.
