What exactly is hair slippage?. I am tanning a couple of deer capes. I can pull hair out of the cape. You can actually hear them tear out. Is this normal?. When does it become a problem?. All capes were frozen and then fleshed and salted. They came from a large taxidermist up north that sales capes. I started noticing that the hair could be pulled out while I was rehydrating them.

That's not slipping. The entire epidermal layer, including the hair and roots actually sloughs off the cape at the slightest touch. Water running over the cape will "wash" slippage right off the cape and you end up with LEATHER instead of a cape. What you're doing is actually pulling hair out of the follicles in the epidermal layer. If it ain't broke, stop screwing with it.
