Howdy redneck,

If you know in what position your badger is going to be mounted take andvantage of that when making your initial incision. I would shy away from a venrtal incision, unless the belly is going to hidden from view. The hair is typically quite short and sometimes thin on the belly and hiding an incision could be quite frustrating. Badgers are definitely towards the top in difficulty of fleshing. There is a heavy layer of fat and gristle on the back of almost all badgers. Besides the fat and gristle the leather is generally fairly thick as well. If you have access to a rotary knife you will be ahead when it comes to shaving the hide down some. I tan all my badgers with Lutan-f and have had no problems to speak of. Drop me an email if I can be of further assistance.
