I have just started Taxidermy. I would like to know if you can tell the diferance between artificial heads & real ones ? And do the pros use them?

Yes some of the Pros use them, but many of the pro's dot use them either. Its a personal preference. Maybe it depends on what you want to call a pro. I know of one shop that usually mounts over 2000 birds and they prefer the real head. Sometimes you simply cannot tell the difference. I do both, just depends onthe bird.
All of my waterfowl get artificial heads. I usually only use them on my upland if the head is either busted to pieces or if the beak is shot. With the artificial heads you do not have to worry about the bill wrinkling at all!
The word is Finazzo, as in Tony. Artificial heads unless you want to spend time rebuilding the noses on the real heads - especially waterfowl.
Thanks For your input I'am sure it will help.
I used the artificial head on my first bird which was a pintail - it is still beautiful ~
Ya you can use ether one and there is little better as long as you know how to paint all the beeks of water foul back to natural due to the fact that the beeks have a thin layer of skin over them that will shrink and sometimes wrinkle and will be a dull black color when completly dry. so if you dont want to mess with the beek wrinkleing on waterfoul i think i would sugjest to you the artificial beeks but in upland birds i still use the real ones
