when to sew

I have some repairs to do on some tanned capes. When is the best time to sew up the holes? When the tanned cape is dry or wet?.

Thanks

Repair all holes before your ready to mount. Try to sew it dry and you will see what I mean.

where are the holes?

If the holes are in the cape I prefer to tack them together after the hide is on the manican. Taxi the hide to where you want it and then pull the hair up and away from the hole. Use hide nails to pull the hole together. Tack it in well then brush the hair back over the hole. use some cape setting gel on the hair and cover with a plastic mesh (staple the mesh on and take it off when dry). Works great for body holes where the hair is longer.
