Has anyone tried this mixture for hide paste? I met a Taxidermist that uses it and it really made the mounts look good and it was easy to use! Is this a good idea? Just wondering,I was going to try it but I cant find any Yellow Dextrine? Any info. would be great and have a great 4th. Jackson Taxidermy

Been there, done that. I dont waste time and money trying 99 different hide paste recipes anymore.
Just use Epo-Grip HIDE ADHESIVE and your pinning and carding days are over. The little extra in price more than makes up for the time you spend working the hide over the next week while the other conglomerations set up.

That was one of the reasons I wanted to try it was because he said he DIDNT have to pin it or card it anymore and it really showed definition well.
What he said and what really happens with caulk it two different things. I know a lot of very good taxidermist who still insist on using caulk. They have been doing that since it hit the market and yes they still have to card. Now look at the price and time and figure your time, cost, shipping, mixing time.
I was really suprised to see and use EGHA and it works its worth the extra cost to never have to make any adjustment. Set the skin and you are done, it will not drum under any circumstance! You can mount a deer on Sunday and enter it in the show on Wednesday. Really!

Would one mix glue (dextrine) with glue (caulk)? Does that fellow also mix varnish and shellac? Put DP in the pickle? Mix wax into the all game or add critter clay to plastilene?

I have been a huge fan of the Epo-Grip products since I started using them after World last year. I second what John C says. The real key to how well any glue or paste works is how well the hide fits the form. If your skin is snug on your form you will run into problems. The best way to illustrate how a skin fits an animal is to put the skin back on the carcass after you skin it. This applies to deer heads as well as lifesize mounts. The skin will fit very loosly, it should fit your mannikin the same way.
