Wow,you want to know a whole bunch of things!First I would recomend that you read up on it.Go to the archives and type in tanning or the like. Many people have asked your same questions and it's all in the archives.Don't be afraid to do a little research.

You need to decide what quality of a tan you want, what are you using it for, how much time you want to spend on it, and how much do you want to spend on chemicals? Shipping on some hazardous chemicals can cost more then the chemicals. Also look at the potential health hazards related with many of the chemicals. You just may want to do a cheap alum tan or should I say pickle if its your first. Alum tan is cheap and easy, and the results arent too bad either. Alum is a good way to get your feet wet.
I think their are as many different methods of tanning as their are taxidermists, and as many products too.
Get a tanning book, read it and then make your descision.
