What is the best way to mark hides for the tanner, seen a couple of ways with just making X with knife or punching with leather punch.. What is the suggested sequence to start with ?

Joe, At my tannery's request, I began using the yellow rubber eartags used on calves. A package of 25 can be puicked up at any farm supply store for about twenty bucks and they're reusable. Attach with a nylon zip tie and you're good to go. Make sure the tag has the numbers imbedded in the plastic or rubber so it doesn't fade from the chemicals (most are okay in this way).

I do just like the tanneries do. I punch code my hides. Look in the archives for instructions.
