ho wrare is a black squirrel? i have heard people say they have lots of them, and others say that have a rare black squirrel, so how rare are they?

We have two towns here in different parts of the state that are loaded with them , at least thats what my customers tell me. It was even in the newspaper once.

Rare black squirrel, I don't think so, come to Michigan. I live in southeast Mi. and there are thousands of them.Actually the black squirrel is just a different color phase of the eastern grey squirrel.
It's called melanism.But being rare, no way.I'm sure in some states they might be. But here in Mi. there everywhere.I hope this helps you out. Coyote
Most of the black squrriels in my area are in fact Fox Squrriels, I have seen one black gray squrriel. Not rare, just diffferent.
Common critter. An out and out pest in some areas where resident populations are 100% black (melanistic). Some areas have large populations of albino squirrels as well.
The fox squirrel's moniker, "Sciurus niger", means "black" squirrel. The fox squirrel in some areas displays a high percentage of black or dark skinned individuals. At one time they were so common so as to lead Audubon to believe that they were a separate species.
i have never seen a black squirrel, do any of you sell them?
Here in NYC, we have both black and grey squirrels. They are both the same size and Im pretty sure we dont have fox squirrels here. They live in the parks, although some parks only have grey and other parks have large numbers of black ones. I even recently had a black squirrel come into my store and it took 2 days to get him out. Id send ya some, but they dont like ya hunting small game in public parks.

those are albino squirels ive seen them too vey rare usualy the regular squirels chase them off or kil them ive seen one get killed once you should get out of town and get one

my name is squrriel man i love squrriels and i have 7 black squrriels and 6 white squrriels i bread them type so i can sell them and ect... but white squrriel is the best meat if you ask me b\c somtin with the albono are somtin but if you get a chance eat some then get the bones and make a collection out of them its pretty funn!
