1st Timberwolf rug mount

A customer just brought me a timberwolf to do a rug mount. He had it at another taxidermist, who tanned it, and got the form, eyes, and ears. The other taxidermist went out of business. There are many many holes in it. I would like to know if I rehydrate it and sew it, and then send it to the rugger? Or do I sew it and mount the head first? And if so, do they rehydrate it again to do the rugging? I have no idea how to go about this. Thank you, Sherry

Sherry, you did not state if it was commercially soft tanned or a home tan which can be a harder feeling tan, anyway mount up the head, soak the head and partial neck to rehydrate, if a soft tan no need to soak the whole body, just sew up the holes from the underside. If a hard tan you may need to rehydrate the whole thing to sew up the wholes and when dry , you'll need to break the hide to soften it up, this will save you some money that the place you send it to will charge. Then send it out to your choice of ruggers.
