took my business cards

Submitted by David on 08/20/2002. ( davben@bellsouth.net ) 216.76.176.72

I placed some of my business cards in a sporting goods location. I went back to check and see if they need to be refilled, but I found that another taxidemist took my cards and replaced them with theres. Does any one else have problems like this?

I ran into the same problem at Wal Mart. Instead of saying anything I just kept taking more back and putting them on the counter. Seems that Wal Mart made them take their displays down shortly after hearing about there poor business ethics. Good Luck, they must be afraid of your talent. Dan

Not true about walmart

I have little respect for walmart to begin with. Funny thing is I along with a lot of you had to take displays down. Walmart being the profit minded &@^& they are called and ask if I could put mine back up. I responded yes as soon as you sign the lease on them. We dont do that! When at a store just 60 minutes away they are paying a taxidermist to display her work. I aint bitter but its funny as hell to me, I still see mounts with names on them in many places. All in all wally world sucks.

This is my opinion and does not reflect that of this site owner.

Don't Feel Bad

A hunting buddie of mine begged me to show him how to mount a deer, as he had quite a few nice racks and wanted to mount some of them for his new den. Well, after a fall and winter of free tutelage, he opened up his own shop and now does over 50 heads a year! I paid well over a grand to learn the same techniques he got for nothing! Needless to say, I've changed hunting buddies.

know what you mean

i have the same problem with one of the local taxidermists. i loose alot of cards to this person. and i have witnesses who seen him do it. what really makes me mad is when a customer calls you to get a price and then calls this other one and he drops his price so i wont get it.and im 75.00 cheaper then he is. but like the other fella said "he must be afraid of my talent". just remember "what will make you laugh will also make you cry"

Happened here too

Though the other haxidermist had the decency to leave my cards, he did have the gall to lay a big stack of his own price sheets on the counter, without anyone from the stores permission, right next to my cards. And while I know that price is not always the determining factor, when the guys charge for whitetails was $175, it's usually a pretty good indicator that he was a newbie, looking to drum up business at my expense. Store displays be dammed, your best advertising tool is your reputation and the yellow pages.

Call him

Tell him what's been happening and ask if he has been having any similar problems. He will probably say a..bu..I..yes..a..no.. People like that are usually just cowards with little self respect or ethics. He'll probably just crawl under a rock and your cards will start to hang around a little longer. If not, don't worry about it. Word of mouth will bring in your customers. Just don't stoop to his level.

happened to me too

I have been displaying my brochures at the local WalMart for years. Well about two years ago they are all started to disappear and when I wanted to put out more I was told that there is a new policy. I can't advertise at the hunting counter anymore. Well I went back and insisted to talk to the hunting and sporting goods manager. I told him what I had been told by the other employee. Well come to find out, there never was such a policy. The other employee was the local taxidermist who just didn't want me to advertise in there. Needless to say, I was allowed to put my brochures back out, the other guy got fired and now it is my mounts that are hanging in there and not his. Ah I say justice had been served, at least this time.
