inner nose color

I just finished the inside of a deer nostril with the sallie dahmes wax, fleshed colored. I don't like the results of this, it seems too "pink" compared to the reference photos I have. I am curious as to what other people use for the inside of the nostril

I felt the same way when I just got done with my second deer. It looks fake. I looked at some reference photos and the inside of some noses is fairly pink, but that Sally Dahmes stuff just does not look right.

I used the flesh colored wax on my second deer, and thought the same thing!

Next time I'm going to sculpt the inner nose with apoxie sculpt and airbrush it. I think that will turn out better.

I learned this from one of the best, Ben Mears, so he gets all the credit. I take some of the natural colored epoxy sculpt and mix some red flocking in with it to get a fleshy, veiny look to the mix. I then roll a little ball and place it in the nostril and blend it with a modeling tool and some safety solvent as the safety solvent seems to work best when working with epoxy sculpt. You can take your time and blend the epoxy down to the hair on the outside of the nostril and also mold the inside of your nostril and it really looks great. I have also tried the flesh colored epoxy sculpt, but it just doesn't look as good(too pink for me) or natural to me as the red flocking mixed with the natural because you can get just the right amount of flesh color you want in the mix. Give this a try, I think you will like the results and so will your customers.
