Fish Soak

Hello;
If I soak a fish in a 50/50 solution of Denatured Alcohol and Water, how long can I keep this solution to reuse later? Also, how long should I soak my fish in plain water after the 50/50 before mounting? Thanks to all the guys and gals who read and answer our questions! We, as beginners appreciate it very much. Again, thanks to all for the input on the questions asked on this forum. I, myself, learn a tremendous amount from just reading all the questions and answers. Thank you!

Fish

Allen,
After I "pickle" my fish overnight in the 50/50, they usually go in the freezer until I can get the form to fit them. I take them out and clear water soak them until thawed, then mount. In that rare case that I get the fish out of the pickle and have the form ready, I set it in clear water for about 30 minutes, but I can't give you any other reason for doing it than "I've always done it that way". It does keep the fins and skin moist until I'm ready to glue and staple it down.

I would be scared to soak overnight in half alcohol and water soak maybe 15 percent alcohol?

Dear Tweedy, do not know where you get your info, but it is wrong. George is correct, in fact you can soak them in pure methanol for up to three months or longer with no harsh results. Resoak in cool water as George suggested, and they are fine. been doing it that way for 18 years!
