Clear if it's in a liquid form, white in a powder.
They sell a product from Miss clairol that you can use to whiten heads.
You can use any % of peroxide, the higher the strenght the less time it takes. So keep an eye on it if you use 40%.

Plain ole

Plain old 3%(usp) Hydrogen Peroxide will do the job. It just takes longer. I prefer using the low percentage mix for small bones and fraglie skulls and parts. The 40% solutions just work faster, like Frank said. I prefer to wrap bones in cotton and place in a shallow pan of the solution, rather than submerse them. The cotton wicks the solution over the surface and the end result is the same but requires less material. Further, the evaporation of water from the cotton concentrates the peroxide, making the percentage higher at the contact surface.

Hydrogen Peroxide will also remove blood stains from the hair and off your clothes. Just squirt it on and let it sit. That's it!
