My mission, that I have already chose to accept, is cleaning the ram head that lives in our Eagles Club. Unfortunately the years of cigarette smoke has taken a toll and he is awfully yellow. Anyone have any suggestions. Can I just wash it or do I have to stay dry? I have never done much else than brush the dust off mounts before, and polish antlers. But, I volunteered, so here goes. One other note, he(the ram) does loose hair when I brush him, in places, mainly the front of the neck. The rest seems to be pretty stable. bj

I would say there are probably 5000 entries and answers to this same question, but then somebody would go count. I WILL bet there are at least 2 or 3. Go to the opening page and type "mount cleaning" in the "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW" block. Amazin!
I had tired of looking through the archives, but, I wasn't asking a very good question. Thanx for pointing me in the right direction. So, if I use dry solvent cleaner I don't need to rinse it? Just let the gunk run off and the cleaner evaporate? Sounds kind of scary. bj
Dry Cleaning solvent, Drum Break Cleaner, Electronic cleaner are all trichlorethane tech, 1.1.1. It evaporates quickly in well ventilated areas. By the Brake Cleaner, it's usually cheaper and don't skrimp. Stand your mount on the base, start at the nose and spray liberally. The grease and cigarette tars will rinse down and off your mount. You MAY need to repaint afterwards, however.
