You will be ripped off, if thats the way you feel about buying supplies you are in the wrong business.

Keep your smart ass comments to yourself

This response submitted by Jason on 09/27/2002. ( ) 205.188.209.43

I was asking for help not criticism. I realize that the foam
is in the suppply catalogs, but I was looking for some sort of
company that carries it local, and with different brands and
quantities, the prices will vary thus leaving someone like me
who is not fammiliar with these products open to buy something
for an outrageous price without knowing it. Maybe ripped off
was not the right choice of words, but still there was no reason
for you to question that I am in the wrong bussiness. You old
grumps on here are more trouble than what you are worth sometimes.
thanks anyway.

Well, ask a stupid question.....

Considering we don't know where you live, it would be hard to tell you where to get it "locally". Excuse John C. for telling you where he gets his at. I think it's the people asking stupid questions here that are more trouble than their worth, not the ones taking their time to help people.

Thank you , Dan

I guess it's the rut. In the last few weeks we've seen more of the stupidest, dumbest, and rhetorical questions that have appeared in some time. Then you bother to tell the person they have their head where the sun doesn't shine and they act as if you've peed the red off their lollipops. JASON, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Maybe your usual websites cater to crybabies, but this ain't it. John wasn't nearly as sarcastic as he probably should have been.

Jason, which foam?

This response submitted by John C on 09/27/2002. ( ) 64.216.172.102

I told you straight forward and honest. You are the one who took it the wrong way. Few towns have any place where you can buy Urethane foam in the first place.

Did you want freon blown foam or water blown foam?

What denisty do you want, 2 lb or 50 lb? You lack a lot of knowledge in this industry, I could have written read the archives stupid, or told yu taht look in the suppliers list, D.A. but I did not.

The way your question is worded, it appears that you are trying to cut corners as are a lot of people these days. When you cut corners, quality usually goes down to match those low prices.

Anywheres and anyways is poor english, I know mine aint that great but by GEO I know that those two words are not in the Websters.

No I am not soory your wording was incorrect. I replied straight forward to where I buy mine.

Local availability, foam and other chemicals

This response submitted by Glen Conley on 09/27/2002. ( g.conley@verizon.net ) 63.26.248.1

You can get liquid chemicals delivered to your door just about any where
in this nation.
The cheapest way to buy per unit is by a semi tanker load.
The next cheapest way to buy per unit is to buy by the tote. Totes
will vary in size, but a few hundred gallons none the less.
The third cheapest way is by the 55 gallon drum. I doubt if you will
find foam availability in 20 gallon pails. The market demand for foam
is much greater in other areas of manufacture than it is in taxidermy.
The cost of union labor alone is enough to keep large companies from
wanting to ship small quantities (55 gallon drums included), if they
aren't careful, there isn't a profit margin left for the company. Then
there is no company.

The taxidermy suppliers are selling out of their own stock. Personally,
I think that is awfully considerate of them to do so. Those jars of fowm
would be worth more as mannikins. The taxidermy suppliers are writing
the big check in order to buy foam to begin with. Granted, they are opting
to make a profit, but think about the nickel's worth of flour that it
takes to make a dozen donuts. I would take the profit margin on donuts
any day of the week over the profit margin afforded by foam.

John C's initial answer is a very valid answer. You would be getting a
product most likely to perform to your expectations, tested over and
over again by the mannikin manufacturers and taxidermists. Don't get
me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with exploring alternative
material sources for mediums with which to work, but this one has already
been figured out for you.

The taxidermy industry supports taxidermists. Taxidermists support the
taxidermy industry. This is not an industry that is about ME, this is
an industry that is about all of US. Collectively we are a voice, collectively
we are a BUYING power. I am personally very strong on supporting local
business. The Mom and Pop stores are a national treasure, but there are
areas in which they simply can not supply.

The moral of the story:
Call WASCO and get some foam.
I doubt that the profits enjoyed by the sale of the foam would support
the financial demands of this FREE web site for any great length of time.
Food for thought.
Glen

Buy some foam from a manufaturer. When you get it look at the lable it usually states the company that makes it. contact them then do the math. You will most likely have to order it 5gal quanities or more in order to get it cheaper than the supply companies your a custom to dealing with . You won't feel ripped off once you shell out the dough for the larger quanities and it goes bad on you before you can use it all.

So if ya don't want to listen go ahead and figure it out for yourself by doing the math or by experience,

But I would just go to the catalogs and be pleased, not disapointed by trying to save chump change.

Oh Terry use the red cobb first then the white cobb to see if you need another red cobb.

When the newbies get ripped on look just down the list

This response submitted by John C on 10/01/2002. ( ) 64.216.172.42

I would guess that in about 70% of the questions, the answer is just a click away. i.e. last week the same question was ask three times, by three different people. The only reason it was ask three times was lack of clicking the button two times or so. Now depending on your server it could have taken two to 45 seconds.

Next most common problem is people wanting a question answered that is in one of the Breakthrough manuals. While someone is free not to buy a book for referene on certain skill, why would you not want or need these in your shop? I see questions ask on here about altering a form. I know its a ruff job foreven the mid level taxidermist sometimes.

BUT GUESS WHICH SUPPLY COMPANY has those instructions with photos in one of thier subsidiary company catalog?

I guess with the computers of today is easier to ask on here than order one of thos catalogs.

Let me take you back even further Jonas did have several very good books, intruction manuals out back in the mid 1970's, I dought any of the newbies even know about them. Guess whats covered in each manual. Obe is even on Gameheads, and concerns antlerand horn angles.

Its not that any of us oldtimers here mind answering questions, we love or we would not be here! It the fact many of these questions are answered for people who dont want to invest in reference materials. These being paint color wheels, manuals, sculpting classes (local college) or even just take a night class to learn to shoot gloss paint on your fish. Sure you will do a lot os sanding and bondo work in the class, but now you will be able to save a buck and be able to touch your car too!

Hope this has explained a little of how and where to collect reference materials.

REFERENCE MATERIALS are the core of our hobbies and lively hoods here. The more R.M. you have the better you will see your work getting.

I was right

This response submitted by You now who this is on 10/01/2002. ( ) 67.8.64.190

Yep,I was right,You now at first we were told to keep the questions viewd at taxidermy, and know we have to have a college degree, and be a perfect speller, and pay for answers to very important questions,Im sorry if it sounds like where taking youre bussiness but where not.You now some of us are not made of money. Some of us cant go out and buy a manaul every time we would like to now something.I happen to love what Im doing, and have a strong love for wildlife.People like some of you grouchy guys are making it hard to even get started.

O,,ya

This response submitted by you now who this is on 10/01/2002. ( ) 67.8.64.190

Thats were I started at was looking on the taxi, web sites and guess what some of them just talked about there businnes this is cool, but when youre question gets half answerd and then it tells you to purchase a manual to get the rest of it .What kind of crap is that?
O,,Im sorry I almost forgot its about the money....HERES YOURE "SIGN".

You can buy a computers but not a reference book?

This response submitted by John C on 10/03/2002. ( ) 64.216.172.40

Hum since for less than $300.00 you can get all the Breakthrough taxidermy manuals. As you are not made of money. How is it you can buy a computer? How can you afford the ISP provider.

I will bet you spend enough money on Sodas, tobacco or booze. The point is you can afford what you want! But a taxidermy manual is not NEEDED? Come on now I just dont think you are putting your priorities in line. Sure we are not made of money, but your priority if the goal is to learn taxidermy should be manuals that teach the subject.

We older or good ole boys as you refer to us, would be the teachers so to speak and you would be the students so to speak.

It seems to me that you would not tell your teach or college prof. I count not do the home work becayse I cant afford the books.

Now what makes this even more obsurd, is most of the answers are located in the archieves, so then what you are telling us in the boys club is that you are to lazy to look up the answers.

I never intended to get in a urination contest with you, just stating what it appears to look like to the rest of us.

maybe there should be a pay per answer board, lets see if the question receives only one asnwer its ten bucks, if two to four answers its 30 bucks. questions that get ten or more answers you pay $100. if would not mater if the answers were good you would still pay the price.

Since there are boards out there that do this its possible. NO we give you the asnwers for free and ask you to get a reference book so you will kearn just a little more and have a little more information.

foam

This response submitted by las on 10/04/2002. ( ) 204.83.31.57

You'll have to check a supply company to get that kind of foam.I think it can be bought in 5 gal. hardener and 5 gal. resin whatever I think It cost a lot..In any case?...I hear the U.S. is raising prices again..which will make it impossible for canadians to do business across border, with that terrible exchange rate..?
