I am going elk hunting next month and would like to make a lamp or something from the hoofs. I also want to tan the remaining hide not used in the head mount. Obviously I'm new to this.
Where do I start getting info? What is pickling?
I have done skinning and such so I have some knowledge........

you won't beleive all you can find oout about tanning already posted.
you type in a key word like Pickle, or Tanning and will learn a great deal I printed out alot and restudied then came back and posted questions about unsure techniques and procedures. you will then receive more details answers to your questions.

look in the WASCO or Van Dykes catalogs they have Novelty kits I think one is a foot lamp.
they provide all the instructions and chemicals .
It's another good place to start to see if you want to pursure Taxidermy further.
