Florida law

Can anyone possibly tell me if there are any laws/statutes/regulations on picking up roadkill in Florida? Mainly racoons and possibly grey squirrels, I've already researched the endangered/protected species of Florida to make sure if there were any types not to touch. Considering I'd rather be informed before I get in trouble by jumping in blind.

But I'm going absolutely nuts, I've checked the current Florida laws site, the Fish and Game for Florida site, did a search on this forum's old posts, and I have nothing! I'm about to check if there's anything in the department of transportation as a last resort.

If anyone can help me by emailing me back it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Called a telephone. PIck it up and call your game and fish department. No matter what we tell you here - call them. We're not the ones gonna arrest ya when ya grab summin ya shouldnt right? And if we fill you with fear of grabbing critters cause we say it sillegal and its NOT.. you lose out on cool critters. Call them - they have the final word. I know here in Ontario Canada, its as simple as grabbin them and if they arent a migratory critter - bring em into a Ministry Of Natural Resources Office with 3 days, let them look at it to be sure it wasnt shot, trapped poisonned etc.. they fill out a form and its all yours =) I even have a juvenille red tailed hawk - YAY me! To restate; call them, dont take our word for it. You'll gain more in a 2 minute phone call than ya will in 8 hours of surfing.

Here you are.....

...the beauty of having this site and others like it is that you can get information from your peers who may have been in your shoes before. Sometimes, your peers can help you cut through alot of red tape and get directly to the source of information in your domain. I have spent , literally, days on end on the phone, doing research and gathering resources and information with various agencies. I find that when I ask the forum, it cuts through alot of the office to office calls. I can capitalize on someone elses experiece, and get directly to the source.
Try this guy...Delmar.Teagan@fwc.state.fl.us. He is a wildlife inspector for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He should be able to answer your questions.
