Slipping

Stop Slip can't help you if the hair is already slipping, but I suspect that one of two things is going on here.
1) you aren't working with a fresh hide. Hides that are allowed to set and spoil will usually slip. Regardless of your preparation method, a fresh hide won't slip and a spoiled one will always slip.

2) Your "slippage" is simply hair falling out later on in the process of DP work. Once the animal is mounted with DP, the hair has a stage where it WILL fall out if tugged on or pulled. DON'T TOUCH THE MOUNT after it's completed until it's dried. You TEST the hide on the back of the backboard. Pull hair towards the brisket. If it comes out, it ain't dry enough yet.

If you DP'ed it, it will stop shedding when it's dried. You just have to have faith. As for Stop Slip, you must use it before the hide spoils but it's a lot like the feather in Dumbo's trunk. When you decide you should use it, you're already too late in most cases. Denatured alcohol bath does the same thing and is a lot cheaper.

George, I agree with you.....to a point. Everything you said is true but there IS a product that you will soon see out that actually DOES stop slipping after it's started. Granted it can't reverse the slippage that has occurred before it's use, but it WILL stop it from continuing. The product is called Stop Rot and was to designed after extensive research. I have been testing this product for a couple of weeks now TRYING to make it fail and can't. It almost acts like a preservititve itself. I will be adding an article about it on TaxidermyReference.com soon. Right now I'm testing it outside it's intended use on the tongue and gills of a bass and plan on injecting it into pheasant legs. Distributors such as T R Supply, Research and others will offer it soon.
Mark
