the low pH is the reasonthe pickle works, it also plumps the hide and makes it easier to thin down.

The pills are sodium flouride which can be deadly to humans. they to kill most of the bacteria, no need to use them together.

ph of 2.0 kills all bacteria

All the pickle is, is a temporary preserving solution allowing you to prepare the skin for tanning. It breaks down the skins cells so it can "claim" the tannage. It plumps up, you shaver down, and have a nice pliable stretchy skin to work with.

If you keep your pickle at a ph of 2.0, and Saftee-Acid asks to keep it at 1.0, you should be okay where bacteria is concerned. But keep stirring it. If I miss one day of stirring, I notice mold starting to grow on the hairs of the hide that are sticking OUT of the pickle.

Basically the hide you pull out of a pickle is sterile.
