I have mounted around 15 deer or so and I have a situation I have never dealt with. A guy brought me a deer that is split all the way up through the briskit. Should I sew it before putting the cape on the form? What type thread would be best to use since I'm sure it will be under some pressure during stretching and taxing? Thanks for the help.

Personally I sew mine up prior to putting it on the cape. And now I use Fireline. Which is the newer fishing line out on the market now. And trust me, it won't break during the drying process.

OOPS;
I meant to say when I put it on the form.
you can sew it up before or after you put it on the form. That's a personal preference. If you sew it up before I think you get a cleaner seam. Fireline is what I use too. Makes sure it is strong enough though. I had some 8 lbs line and it broke constantly. Never will go under 20 again.
