WHY?

I know that's no answer, but curiosity sure has me on this one. And why ANYONE would want to save dead deer glands for next year when they can be bought fresh and fresh scent over the counter is me. Can you see what deer would do in our place? "Hon, save the baby diapers for me so I can use the anal musk on my shoes during human season."

I just probably grew UP better.

But while I'm here

"Landfills" take a lot of heat for no reason. If there were FEWER people, there'd be less discarding and since living creatures, by design, work on ingestion, processing, and evacuation in order to live, refuse becomes just as necessary. Landfills FILL simply because biodegradable products are included in them and the liners that line the bottoms don't allow for normal and natural disintegration. "Saving" organic glands for next year is totally counterproductive. Since it IS organic, it disintegrates from light, heat, or age and pretty soon, you have a freezer full of 'saved' stuff as you can't use it as quickly as you get more from the current year. Did you know that deer respond to human urine just like they do fox, wolf, cougar, or even other deer. The money made from luring scents are produced in farms where does in estrus have the urine collected. Sex sells (both to hunters and whitetail bucks) but "doe-in-heat" urine will repell deer when overused or used during irregular seasons (except for bucks with dirty minds, of course). It will spook does and fawns in early autumn since they realize that smell will attract amorous bucks and oversexed bucks pestering uninterested does is not their idea of a good time. Interdigital glands DO produce a musk, but only to allow deer to follow a certain trail. It is never EVER added to urine, though many include the statement in their labels. (I deal with a guy who markets the scents and he verified this is simply an advertising gimmick.) And besides that, you should stay away from that "raised better" crap. Muhammed and Malvo probably had good parents and I know for a certainty that Ted Bundy was brought up in a good home. Find another cliche.

now there was something worth reading

i dont ever plan to "grow up" if it includes being nasty and grumpy.
and since you find no use for interdigital glands have you ever hung one on a tree and watched the response from the deer that go by?

Nope, can't say I have

This response submitted by George on 11/13/2002. ( ) 152.163.189.67

But it's no wonder they're looking up. They're amazed their brethern have learned how to climb. That must be where they got that picture in the advertisements. BTW, corn piles, salt blocks, and timed feeders seem to work pretty well also, but I actually know people who've killed braggin sized bucks without ever having used any of those gimmicks. One guy killed a 150 class here last year when he got tired of waiting and got down, sat on a stump, lit a cigar and took out his bottle of Jim Beam for a shot. Musta been a deer bent on carousing, huh? LMAO Save your glands,Jen. When you get to my age you'll wish you had anyway.

yep the best bucks i have taken i ve been grounded

Deer Hoofs and Toes

This response submitted by Kim on 01/02/2003. ( ) 64.12.96.203

I learned from an elder in our tribe how to preserve the hoof leaving it attatched to the hide. I use them for Regalia items. If this is what you were originally asking then you can e-mail me at CoyoteSongWoman@AOL.com. :-)
