White Banded Eyes? Which direction?

Submitted by DW on 11/15/2002. ( ) 216.229.44.237

I am trying my first whitetail mount and the form I have came with white banded eyes. The colored part has an slight egg shape it and I would like to know if the narrow part goes to the front or rear.

Thanks!

Egg shape to the front

to the front. Pupils level front to back backboard at a 90 degree angle to the ground or plumb as it has been called. Also use a caliper and a centered spot on the front of the nose measure and make sure the front of pupils are a equal distance. Look closely at a good photo, make the clay look like the finish eye. good luck.

Parallel to floor

Acctually, the eye pupil should be parallel to the floor, 90 degrees to the wall or stand. The pupil will almost always be that way no matter the pose. i use a level to get form level with floor and then I use it to also level the pupils while setting them. Trying to eyeball them in, will leave them way off. Also, I use a small mag light to shine on the eye so I can see the pupil better as the eyes can be sometimes to dark to see it clearly.

Try one of the new LED flashlights.

I bought one and they are the brightest light I have ever seen.
