Help with beaver!

Submitted by jp on 12/15/2002. ( julee@mindspring.com ) 65.58.166.74

Been mounting whitetails (sucessfully for about a year) but today a close friend brought me a beaver to learn with (He's doing me a real favor huh? My business card says Whitetail Taxidermy, not a word about beavers). I don't know the first thing about anything but deer. Where can I find information (detailed instructions) on how to handle this animal? It is currently in the freezer/whole. My old computer does not allow me to use the "search" feature on this page, or I would have looked there. I mean I'm lost. I don't even know the proper method of skinning. Can I tan it at home or must it be sent out? Any information is appreciated and any disregard is understood. Thanks, JP

.... youre computer is no good, why not bring pen and paper and sit down at Chapter's. You can use thier computer's. Or, my old favourite, the "library". Not much has changed in mounting those blubbery flat tailed rats. As far as tanning, no different than any whitetail cape. As far as measuring, I like to say, large, medium, or small. Just keep the front teeth, you'll see.
