just how much inner nose skin (from the hair line) do you need?
I am having trouble getting that thin delicate skin off the cartildge.

1/8" is enough if you use a good hide paste. The edge with cartilage is mostly on top so unless a judge uses a flashlight and stands on his head to look up in there, you'll be OK.
