Submitted by Shon on 12/21/2002. ( guitars4me55@hotmail.com ) 205.188.209.168

I have a button or spike buck with about 1.5-2" horns and I wanted to do a antler mount with it? is this possible or is it to small and should I boil the cap?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Deer antler mount

Shon, Not too small for sure. I don't boil the skull- just clean very well and let dry, prep and mount the antlers. Check in the "search" for MANY entries under "antler mount" for particular description on how to do. Enjoy, Aaron H.

be careful

just be careful when cleaning and removing the skull cap. Button bucks usually have very thin bone , sometimes almost transparent. It'll crack on you in a heartbeat if not handled somewhat gentle.

But I would definitely stay away from boiling. You say it has 1 1/2" - 2" nubs. Personally I'd call that a small spike. Still, it needs to be handled with care. But make sure to get it completely clean.
